Job Description

Job Title: Graphic Designer FLSA Classification: Exempt



Pay Rate: Beginning Rate: $32.00/hour Part Time: Full Time:







Supervision Received: Position reports to the Executive Administrator (EA)

Supervision Exercised : Supervises the work of vendors and/or contract workers.





Job Summary:


Under the general supervision of the EA and in partnership with the Marketing and Communications Coordinating
Committee and other staff as appropriate, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visual content using
software and design principles to communicate ideas effectively. The Graphic Designer translates concepts into
visuals and ensures that designs meet graphic standards and strict deadlines.



Essential Responsibilities:



  • Design and production of visual written materials that support all marketing, advertising, and
communication needs of the Garden, including:

o Presentations
o Brochures/Guides
o Emails
o Social Media
o Wayfinding/Signage (bilingual where appropriate)
o Special Events
o Digital and print ad campaigns
o Direct mail
o Website
o Newsletters
o Other communication pieces as required

  • Coordinates with internal teams in the design concept phase through completion of a project.
  • Obtains approval of concepts by preparing rough layouts for review.
  • Provides content and design for marketing, membership, and special event materials, t-shirts and other

promotional materials, ad campaigns, direct mail pieces, and other communication pieces as required.

  • Write and edit copy print and digital materials.
  • Prepares final layout by marking and pasting up finished copy and art.
  • Coordinates with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc. to complete projects.
  • Organizes and maintains the Garden’s digital asset management system.
  • Obtains bids from printers and other outside vendors and/or contractors for the production of printed

materials.

  • Documents and attends special events. providing photography and video for social media posts and
print materials.
  • Stay up to date with design trends and new software and technology.

Education Requirement



  • BA/BS degree in graphic design or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, professional
experience, and/or appropriate certification(s).

Experience Requirement



  • Minimum of 5-8 years of professional graphic design.
  • Extensive experience with digital marketing, including web, video, and email.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Required:

  • Technical proficiency with computers, databases, Microsoft software programs (including Microsoft
Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Google Suite, Social media platforms (such as
Facebook, Instagram, X), Canva, Mailchimp, Adobe Acrobat/Photoshop, and other graphic design
software.
  • An understanding of typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
  • Proficiency in image editing and manipulation.
  • Managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Creative thinking – generating innovative and visually appealing designs.
  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency in design work.

Preferred:



  • Working experience with a CRM (Altru preferred).
  • Knowledge of horticulture, botany, and/or botanical gardens.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s license.
  • May be required to work weekend or evening hours, and occasionally on holidays.
  • Must be able to work at least 20 hours per week.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to walk on uneven ground and go up and down stairs.

  • Must be able to lift and move materials of up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to assist with the setting up of and take down of Garden events.

Working Environment:



  • This is a 20-hour/week part-time position.
  • Work will be performed on site at the Garden’s offices in the Udall Building and remotely in accordance

with the Garden’s “Remote Work Policy.”

  • Some outdoor and evening work in the Garden for special events.
