The Road Home was founded in 1923 and has been a leader in the endeavor to end homelessness for over 100 years. JOB SUMMARY

As a Housing Advocate, you perform a wide variety of duties relating to working with these vulnerable populations. As a TRH employee you will be a part of a homeless shelter system that provides emergency shelter to over 1,000 individuals nightly, and permanent supportive housing to over 1,700 individuals each day. Working here, you will have an opportunity to assist people who are rebuilding their lives.

Day Shift (7:00am-3:30pm),
Swing Shift (3:00pm-11:30pm)
Graveyard Shift (11:00pm-7:30am)

Pay Grade and Starting Salary
Grade 4, $16.80/hour

FLSA Status
Non-Exempt

As an Advocate, you will:

• Provide quality customer service to our clients who may be in need of resources in addition to a warm bed for a night. 
• Observe and help regulate activities at the resource center, ensuring rules and procedures are followed. 
• Provide clear and specific information and instruct guests of Resource Center rules/procedures in a kind, compassionate, and trauma-informed way.    
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, identifying special needs, and referring needs to supervisor. This includes basic cleaning responsibilities such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning bio spills, and ensuring workspaces are tidy and prepared for the next shift, among other duties as needed. 
• Answer phones, take messages, and respond to the public. 
• Operate as part of a team that strives to serve the unsheltered in our community. 
• Follow the instructions of the Shift Supervisor/Lead. 

As an Advocate, you will be trained to:

• Assist in resolving conflicts that may arise among residents.
• Write incident reports where appropriate. Maintain records of resident stays and maintain an accurate shelter log.
• Provide occasional crisis intervention and emergency interface with community resources such as EMS and law enforcement.

Education and Experience

• Experience working with diverse populations preferred. 

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

• Ability to lift 25 pounds
• Ability to stand and/or walk for an hour or more at a time
