Interior Designer

PlanForce, a dynamic and employee-owned Architecture and Interior Design firm based in Minneapolis, is looking for a creative and driven Interior Designer to join our team. As a growing firm, PlanForce values teamwork, innovation, and a hands-on approach from all team members. The Interior Designer will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional design solutions while helping our long-term clients transform their business goals into inspiring spaces.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Design Team: Work closely with the design team on a variety of projects, from the initial client consultation through to project completion and close-out. Ensure seamless communication and coordination across all phases of design and construction.
  • Client Relationship & Project Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, managing relationships and projects of varying size and complexity. Effectively communicate project goals, progress, and timelines, ensuring client needs and expectations are met while adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints.
  • Creative Design & Documentation: Develop creative design concepts, including layouts, mood boards, and design presentations. Produce detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and material schedules, ensuring they align with client objectives, project budgets, and deadlines.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee project management tasks related to design implementation, ensuring that design solutions are executed to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.
  • Finish Schemes & Material Selection: Develop comprehensive finish schemes and select materials and furnishings that reflect the project’s vision and meet client expectations. Make informed decisions on materials and finishes that are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and sustainable.
  • Product Research & Documentation: Research and document various products, details, and construction systems as specified by the Project Manager. Ensure all materials and finishes meet project specifications, safety standards, and sustainability goals.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors. Foster effective partnerships that support project success and enhance long-term business growth.
  • Team Collaboration & Flexibility: Be an active, engaged team player, willing to take on a variety of tasks as needed to support the overall success of the firm. Demonstrate adaptability in managing competing priorities and contribute to the overall success of each project, as assigned by the manager.
  • Contribute to Firm Growth: Contribute to the ongoing growth and success of PlanForce by sharing a passion for design, bringing technical expertise to projects, and staying at the forefront of innovation in the industry. Support continuous improvement efforts and help establish the firm as a leader in design excellence.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in interior design, with a preference for experience in commercial design.
  • NCIDQ certification or actively working towards it
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is highly valued
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and rendering/3D software
  • Strong creative design sensibilities paired with advanced technical skills, including hand sketching and conceptual design development
  • Self-starter with exceptional time management abilities
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a strong capacity to actively listen to clients, understand their needs, and translate their vision into actionable design concepts
  • Strong team-oriented approach, with the ability to work collaboratively and make decisions through consensus-building.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and driven by a passion for design excellence.
  • Solid understanding of code requirements and the ability to apply them effectively in design and construction practices, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
