Job Summary:
The Prospect Research Manager reports to the Director of Philanthropy and works closely with the Director of Advancement Services to provide strategic intelligence for University Advancement. You will partner with front-line fundraisers to provide prospect identification, analysis, and tracking. Your role will involve interpreting and summarizing data from a variety of sources to offer data-informed strategies, making recommendations for appropriate prospect cultivation. As part of the team, you will help identify new fundraising opportunities and assist in data analysis projects to discover individuals for both specific and general fundraising needs.

Job Description:

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience and knowledge of prospect research, data analysis, and donor engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in using Raiser's Edge or other relational databases; experience with query and report writing is preferred.
  • You have an eye for identifying and analyzing donor interests, capacity, and philanthropic trends.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, reporting progress to department leadership.
  • Enthusiastic, passionate, and strong work ethic, with a commitment to the mission of the University.
  • Proactive and resourceful, with strong attention to detail, especially in managing sensitive data.
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills to present data and research findings clearly.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a diverse population is preferred.




What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide proactive research to identify prospects for engagement and development.
  • Create donor profiles and conduct reactive research to support the President, Vice President, and other key team members for meetings and engagement strategies.
  • Develop expertise in fundraising to present research in strategic and actionable ways, contributing to the growth of the strategy team.
  • Identify foundation grants and support the collection of necessary documentation for grant applications.
  • Recommend and assign new prospects to appropriate development officers for discovery and cultivation, ensuring a balanced portfolio.
  • Design and execute prospect identification projects, using screenings, predictive models, and database queries to identify high-potential prospects.
  • Orient and train development staff to research and relationship management policies and system procedures in the database; interpret the policies as needed.
  • Design systematic, as well as one-time projects, to qualify and quantify segments of the university's prospect pool for multiple engagement purposes and campaign priorities, through the use of screenings, predictive models, and querying the database.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Services to develop reports and data visualizations that support research, prospect management, and major giving.
  • Regularly assess and improve the quality and reliability of research tools and resources, staying updated on industry trends.
  • Manage annual reviews of new parent prospects to identify major gift opportunities and support appropriate engagement strategies.




Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 2-3 years work experience in the non-profit fundraising field
  • Experience working with a relational database, preferably Raiser's Edge
  • Proficiency in prospect research and familiarity with online resources
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong to outstanding computer skills
  • Ability to navigate and learn unfamiliar information systems and use a variety of computer programs with little or no guidance
  • Aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving; ability to think strategically about the potential implications of information found and willing to make judgment calls as appropriate
  • High level organizational skills for building records that are current and easy to access
  • Self-starter, with proven experience in effectively handling details, priorities, multiple projects, and competing deadlines
  • Must be persistent and resourceful, especially in exploring and adapting research methodology
  • Able to maintain sensitive and confidential information under the ethical guidelines established by industry standard organizations (e.g. APRA, CASE, and AFP)
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant .
