This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.
Join our team at the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the Office of Public Affairs as an Information Officer II. This pivotal role involves leading a team dedicated to excellence in public communication and media relations, managing complex projects, and engaging with communities through innovative strategies. You will supervise the creation and dissemination of effective communications reflecting the DMV’s mission, values, and public policy objectives. In this position, you will act as the department’s spokesperson at public events, develop and maintain media relationships, and oversee the department's strategic communication efforts. This includes managing the publication of internal communications, content for the DMV Driver Internal Intranet, and conducting media training for staff. Your leadership will ensure consistent and effective dissemination of information to the public, media, and internal staff. Candidates must pass background and fingerprint clearances and bilingual abilities in Spanish or is desirable. The incumbent will work in an office environment for extended periods of time operating basic office equipment such as keyboard, mouse, and monitor. May be required to travel via air or car throughout the state to DMV field offices, media events, or meetings. Ability to communicate effectively with internal/external customers, give presentations, and participate at meetings, conferences and workshops.

Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese is desirable. Have knowledge of techniques for preparing, producing and disseminating information utilizing all major media communication channels; principles and techniques of establishing and maintaining good relations with news media and other public groups and knowledge of local government operations, public event management, and marketing. Be skilled at writing, including proper grammar usage, spelling and punctuation. Possess the ability to write, edit, and prepare publications or reproduction of various internal and external informational materials. Skilled at working with people and can work cooperatively with other public information office staff and peer groups.
