Job Description

One of our clients is seeking a Senior Java Developer to lead the integration of an existing Java application’s authentication system from Agency Active Directory to the COV Active Directory while implementing Okta for multifactor authentication .

This role involves full SDLC participation , from requirements analysis to development, integration, and deployment , using Java, Eclipse, Spring, Hibernate, JBOSS, SQL, Maven, and Subversion . The ideal candidate will have strong technical leadership abilities , experience with enterprise authentication systems , and expertise in secure coding practices .

This position is primarily remote but requires candidates to pick up equipment in person and be available for on-site work as needed . Local Richmond candidates are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead authentication integration efforts , transitioning Active Directory authentication to COV Active Directory with Okta multifactor authentication .
  
• Design, develop, and test secure, scalable, and high-performance Java applications .
  
• Utilize Java, Eclipse, Spring, Spring MVC, Hibernate, JBOSS, Maven, and Subversion for development and maintenance.
  
• Implement best practices for security, performance, and scalability within the application framework.
  
• Collaborate with business analysts, domain experts, and IT teams to document requirements and ensure system needs are met.
  
• Oversee system integration and transition efforts , ensuring smooth deployment of authentication changes.
  
• Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and performance tuning for developed applications.
  
• Support post-implementation evaluation , troubleshooting, and enhancements as needed.
  
• Provide technical mentorship to IT staff and ensure adherence to coding standards and security best practices .
  
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in Java development, authentication systems, and cloud security .
  

Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of senior-level Java development experience .
  
• 7+ years of experience with Eclipse, Spring, Hibernate, JBOSS, Maven, and Subversion .
  
• Strong expertise in enterprise authentication and security best practices .
  
• Experience in full software development lifecycle (SDLC) management .
  
• Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership on system integration and security .
