Job Description

Overview:

The Leadership Development Program (LDP) for teens (ages 13-17), helps them grow resilience and independence through leadership programming. The Teen Leadership Coordinator will supervise 1-3 Camp Counselors and implement curriculum that support teen leadership skills. This Coordinator will model community building, social responsibility and an appreciation for the outdoors as they guide teens on their leadership journey.

Pay Rate: $500.00-$525.00/week. This position requires you to live at camp. Room and board are included.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervises 1-3 Camp Counselors working with teens in the Leadership Development Program (LDP) on a weekly basis.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance and effectiveness, including daily check ins and one-on-one feedback sessions. Supports other Leadership team members with Camp Counselor feedback sessions as needed.
  • Reports directly to the Resident Camp Director.
  • Develops and oversees teen programming facilitated by Camp Counselors.
  • Facilitates high quality leadership programming with teens.
  • Works closely with the Unit Coordinators and other Coordinators as needed.
  • Lives in yurt or tent accommodations with other Leadership staff members.
  • Works closely with the Program Director when teens are supporting Evening Program.
  • Works closely with the Behavioral Specialists, Health Officer, and Camp Nurses to ensure high quality care for teens.
  • Ensure safety and well being of all campers under their supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios as required.
  • Maintain a professional presence for YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake through appropriate staff and camper interactions, and adheres to Associations and Camps codes of conduct.
  • Attends all scheduled bus chaperone assignments on Check-In and Check-Out days.
  • Attends all required staff meetings on time.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills for campers and staff.
  • Drives Y vehicles on and off site as needed.
  • Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
  • Incorporate the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 21+ years old.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college also required.
  • Cleared to drive YMCA vehicles with a clean MVR.
  • Previous experience working with children ages 13-17 years required.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor skills, archery, arts and crafts, field sports, hiking, outdoor education, mountain biking.
  • Completion of: CPR/AED, Medication Administration Delegation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Staff Orientation. (We provide this as part of staff training).
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
